It’s that time of year
. . . time to count our blessings.  I love November.  It’s the month of Thanksgiving Day, and it’s the time of year when we are all reminded to count our blessings.  The Rosie family doesn’t have much trouble remembering that, because it was November 1985, when we first came on to the mission field to live.  This year marks the beginning of our twentieth year of work on the field, and we have so many blessings to count:

The blessing of you
Without you, willing servants of the Father, we couldn’t have existed this long in both Kenya and Madagascar.  You have fed us both physically and spiritually.  You have held us up in prayer.  You have placed so much confidence and trust in us.  You have been our hands and feet in the States tirelessly sending things we needed.  You have been our eyes and ears, informing us of those we left behind and keeping us up to date.  You have been so faithful in prayer for both the work in Kenya, the work in Madagascar, the work with the orphans, and for our family and our family needs.  We deeply appreciate the blessing that you are now and that you have been to us for twenty years.

The blessing of Kenya brothers and sisters
Barry was able to make a trip to Kenya recently and he was reminded vividly of the blessings that our Kenyan brothers and sisters in Christ have been to us.  The stepped right in when we stepped out and the church continues to learn of and follow the Savior.  Some of them are so strong in Christ despite massive poverty and sickness, despite the fact that they have no missionary to lean on.  We are blessed by the example of their dedication and their faith.  Their love reaches to us clear from our old home in South Nyanza.

The blessing of Malagasy brothers and sisters
They are so new in Christ, and yet they are as strong an example of dedication and faith as the Luo Christians are.  October 31, 2004, was our bi-annual three church meeting and all day picnic.  It’s difficult to describe what my heart felt as Malagasy Christians poured into the new orphanage building and I was able to greet those I do not see every day or even every week.  We didn’t have enough chairs for the adults and the children were squeezed onto floor mats that were far too small for the number in attendance.  The singing was wonderful and praying together even better.  At the end of the service we realized that four, not three, congregations were represented!  That was an added blessing.  Lunch together was wonderful.  Despite the poverty that also reigns in this country, Christians are learning to share and everyone brought more than necessary in a spirit of love and caring.  For the first time since we’ve lived in Madagascar, I watched women, both upper and lower class, mixing comfortably, calling each other by name, working together, and visiting joyfully in the process.  It was a sight that defies worldly class values and restrictions.

The blessing that orphans pour forth
Sometimes, they seem a terrific burden.  Sometimes, they are frustrating, especially in the teenage years.  Sometimes, they are a puzzle.  Most often, they are blessings of smiles, loving hugs, laughter, willingness to help, and anxious for a fun-filled time.  Sometimes, they surprise us with blessings that we never even thought we would get, and they too become an example to us.

The blessing of  new opportunities and new works for Him
Kevin and Nancy Chambers are back in Madagascar, laying the groundwork for the radio antenna that will be constructed in Majunga by World Christian Broadcasting to broadcast His Word not only throughout the Middle East, but also here within Madagascar.  The attended worship with four congregations on our big picnic Sunday, and we are praying for the wonderful opportunities for Christ in Madagascar.

Did You Know. . .
That it should be springtime here but it’s still like winter.  I got our jackets out again.  Everyone keeps telling me that it’s still winter because the rain won’t come to warm up the earth.  Last week though, there was a storm depression that came in off the east coast and we had two whole days of rain.  Still it’s cold and feels like winter instead of spring.  It’s mid-November.  It should be spring!
this and that
Visit to Mauritius
We’ve been neighbors for years and we’ve just now met.  Mauritius is an island (an independent country), 500 miles off the east coast of Madagascar.  We are as much neighbors as two islands can be.  Mauritius is tiny, Madagascar is huge in comparison.  The church on both islands is a mere babe, though Sylvio Salomon and his wife, Marianne, have been Christians for longer than we have and are the pillars of His church in Mauritius.  In mid-October, we (John and Esther, Barry and Stacy) finally had the opportunity to visit Mauritius for several days and we had the absolutely lovely experience of meeting our brothers and sisters in Christ on our neighboring island.  We spent half of our time in Mauritius with Tony and Caroline Leuteritz and their three children, and they Sylvio and Marianne graciously filled the rest of our time on the island.  We visited with two different congregations of the Lord’s body on the island and we were welcomed with much love in the homes of several Christians.  We all,  the Mauritians and their Malagasy visitors wished that our two islands were just a little closer together so that we could fellowship more often.  What we can do, and are doing, is praying for each other.

What can you do?
You can pray!
    • Pray for the Mauritius Christians that we recently visited.  Pray that they may grow strong and multiply in number.  Presently there are two congregations on the island of Mauritius.
    • Pray for the Rosie children as they study in Kenya.  Pray especially for Havilah.  She is having some trouble adjusting to dorm life at Rift Valley Academy.
    • Pray for the church here in Madagascar.  Pray for the four different congregations. They are: Ambohijatovo, Ankadivato, Ambohimarina and Andraharofotsy.
    • Pray especially for the classes that are being taught to the young children, so that they can become strong workers for HIM.
Miniature Missionaries
They are about to complete their first term of school in Kenya and Mom and Dad are waiting anxiously for their return home for a nice long visit.  We get short emails from Kit frequently telling us how busy he is with school work and also with skate boarding skills and a full social life.  Havilah writes less frequently, but her letters are long and they come to us via regular mail written so nicely and telling us both the good and the not so good about school.  We ask your continued prayers especially for Havilah who is struggling with dorm life.  We may have some very difficult decisions ahead of us that will concern our whole family.  Please pray.
Isn’t this little guy a cutie?
His name is Diary (pronounced Dee-ary) and he is Rivo and Fano’s little tyke.  He’s also one little blessing for the future of the church in Madagascar.  There are thirty other just such little blessings for the church in Madagascar and they are already growing up with parents committed to His Word and His Church.  We are all working hard developing and refining our Bible program for these little tykes.  We have several dedicated teachers who are learning as they are teaching.  What we need to complete our efforts, are your prayers for this future blessing of the church in Madagascar.
